Let’s resume our Page Speed Boosting discussion, after the break and continue with our discussion about steps to take by a Web design company to boost Page Speed.

Steps to be taken by a Web design company to boost Page Speed?

In our last discussion, we have already stressed the importance of:

  • Image size optimization,
  • Minify JavaScript and CSS files
  • Asynchronous loading of files
  • Server-side actions

In image size optimization, the web development services company or the e-commerce development company takes care of image compression nitty gritty; the company has taken care of minification of JavaScript and CSS files, Asynchronous loading, and server-side actions. But you need to do more.

Zip your JavaScript, HTML and CSS files

Another way to cut down your load time is zipping the JavaScript, HTML, and CSS files. You can use Gzip to compress the JavaScript, HTML, and CSS files and cut down the load times. Since web browsers are now Gzip compatible, so unzipping is no problem. It will take the load off and enable fast rendering of the web contents. Another way is to eliminate Render-Blocking JavaScript.

What is Render-Blocking JavaScript?

To understand what is Render-Blocking, you have to search the history. From the early days of newspaper printing, it uses long folded sheets. And when the newspaper reached the news-stand, you could view only the upper one. Therefore to boost the newspaper sale, the publishers, used to pack the upper part of the paper, with sensational stories, and pictures.

The same concept goes on with web design. The upper part of the newspaper and a webpage is synonymous and is known as above-the-fold content. Now, as and when the web browser encounters a JavaScript and CSS, the browser first executes the program and then proceed further. Therefore, the time to load the web page increases.

But do you need all these JavaScript and CSS files for above-the-fold content? The answer is probably no. So, you need to identify all those Render-Blocking JavaScript and eliminate those from the above-the-fold content.

However, there is a big if. If your website is a WordPress one, and you are using plug-ins, then what is your option? Do you stop using plug-ins? Do you want to compromise the utility or quality of your website? Of course, not. And hence, you have to bear with the brunt of Render-Blocking JavaScript and CSS files to a certain extent. But there is another trick, eliminate external JavaScript. What is an external JavaScript?

In the course of your programming your custom e-commerce website or for that matter in web design, if you use external JavaScript, then the browser has to make a roundtrip to execute the program, increasing the load time. Therefore, avoid using external resources and make them inline. The trick is to incorporate the JavaScript inline. If you are a WordPress developer, then you can eliminate all these errors and make your e-commerce website solutions faster by using it below the fold. Another discipline is to avoid using the Render-Blocking CSS files in the critical pathway.

Reducing the redirects

Consciously avoid the redirects. Every redirect instruction takes time and slows the website, therefore, avoid it.

Removal of duplicate contents

Very often, your webpage’s create duplicate contents. Identify those pages and take corrective action to remove all duplicate contents. It happens for e-commerce development websites. So, take care. If you want to speed up your Page Speed, talk to your Web design company and make sure that they adhere to the basics. Good Luck!
